The Pickens High School winners of the Honea Worley Family History Scholarship are Brooks Godfrey, son of Randy and Amberle Godfrey, and Katie Stocker, daughter of Susan and Eric Stocker. Brooks won first place and received a scholarship award of $1500. Katie's 2nd place scholarship award was $750. Both students plan to attend Georgia Tech. Katie is PHS Valedictorian and Brooks is Salutatorian. The scholarship has been funded for the past 15 years by Pickens County native, Hiram Honea of Birmingham, to honor his parents and former school teacher. MVHS congratulates these two students on their excellent scholarship entries. They are being hard bound and will be added to the Georgia Room of the Pickens County Library in the near future.

Charles O. Walker Collection
Plans have been finalized with Rev. Charles O. Walker, the Marble Valley Historical Society, and the Pickens County Library for the donation of some of Rev. Walker's book collection to the Georgia Room of the Pickens County Library. Over the next weeks his books will be processed by the Library and added to the Reserve Book section. His valuable collection includes numerous volumes about the Cherokee and other historic sites and persons of North Georgia. Other books and Baptist papers have been donated to the Jack Tarver Manuscript Library of Mercer University in Macon. Rev. Walker has been vitally involved in the preservation of Cherokee history and published numerous books relevant to the Cherokee, Baptist history and families of Pickens County. He is President Emeritus of the Marble Valley Historical Society and currently serving again as President of the local AARP Chapter.
